about LaHitz Media...
Jacquie Taliaferro - Founder & CEO
Native San Franciscan, filmmaker, community activist, independent film advocate and founder of the LaHitz Media @ Cannes Film Series, Taliaferro has developed numerous film panels in the academic arena and has lent his expertise to co-organize national and international film festivals.
Taliaferro was instrumental in bringing films from the Diaspora, notably Karmen Gei, Beat the Drum, and Hip-Hop Colony (the African Hip-Hop Explosion) to the 2005 Oakland International Film Festival. “Jacquie Taliaferro’s work with the Oakland International Film Festival demonstrates his passion for film and the African voice,” says David Roach, the festival’s executive director. “He brought that voice and African brand to the festival. People are still talking about the enriching experience they had by hearing the African theme spoken by Africans.”
In addition, Taliaferro brought filmmaker Jordan Walker-Pearlman to the festival for his West Coast premiere of Constellation, starring Gabrielle Union, Billy Dee Williams and Hill Harper.
Taliaferro’s work centers on bringing a voice to the masses and for more than a decade Taliaferro has advocated for an accessible media facility in the Mission and Bay View Hunter’s Point neighborhoods in San Francisco.
Whether in France or California, Taliaferro continues to bring the unique voice of up-and-coming African Diaspora filmmakers to the forefront.
